What the Bleep?!* – Ten Years Later
What the Bleep Do We Know was in many ways a groundbreaking film ten years ago. Can you believe it’s been ten years since this film was released, followed two years later by The Secret — another “groundbreaking” film? What the Bleep was radical because it offered leading edge quantum physics principles, along with great animation, to explain in simple layman terms a new way of thinking about how we create our realities. It introduced Quantum Theory “for dummies” so-to-speak, in an attempt to support a metaphysical, and even mystical, view of the world. Depending on who you talk to, it was either thought-provoking and eye-opening, or an abysmal quasi-scientific “edutainment” film.
But as they say in show biz, there’s no such thing as bad press. Healthy skepticism, questionable scientific interpretations, or out-of-context interview snapshots notwithstanding, this film did awaken minds and open hearts to the deeper and broader dimensions of human experience. It catalyzed many conversations during which people discussed our place in the universe in a completely new way– and for many, many people it was their first introduction to such concepts and worldviews.
So here’s a toast to those visionaries and pioneers that brought What the Bleep into our conscious culture ten years ago. A toast to those who had the passion and vision to imagine a better world and then do something about it in a big way, and the best way they knew how. Cheers.
